Little Robert Schumann Competition for Young Pianists

An event of the Robert Schumann Academy of Music of the Town of Zwickau in conjunction with the Robert Schumann Society of Zwickau, initiated by the Robert Schumann Academy of Music, which took place for the first time in 1968 and has been hosted there ever since.

The competition which takes place in Robert Schumann’s birthplace every two years, addresses children and adolescents up to the age of 19 who have not started their music studies yet and who are permanently resident in the Federal Republic of Germany.

The focus is on Robert Schumann’s piano works, as far as these can be mastered by the young pianists.

The competition is therefore conducted for three age groups. The procedure of the competition depends on the age, too. Participants up to the age of 10 come first, followed by the 11 to 14 year old ones, and the 15 to 19 year old ones finish the competition.

There are three prizes awarded for each age group. The participant with the highest score is awarded a special prize by the Robert Schumann Society of Zwickau.
