“The Story of Clara Schumann”, a theatre concert coming to China again!
This year marks the 200th anniversary of Clara Schumann’s birth and the story of this theatre concert was written by Director Ms. Sandra Yinghong Huang; it is a presentation where the Swiss pianist Chantal Largier, the German soprano Eva Wenniges and the Chinese actress Giya Shi-Ce perform the intimate life of the pianist Clara Schumann with the greatest empathy! This performance is not just about "listening" to classical music but also about "looking at" and "experiencing" a life drama, an absolutely wonderful interpretation covering the bright and sad sides of Clara Schumann’s life, all the hardships and fights she had to go through.
This theatre-concert, called “drama concert” in Chinese, is a novel way to introduce the Chinese to classical masterpieces. The story is based on the famous composer Schumann's wife Clara and is partly performed by an actress; it is primarily a normal concert consisting of original masterpieces by Clara and Robert Schumann, Brahms, Liszt in the form of piano presentations and art songs before an audience.
This theatre-concert had been performed in 2017 and 2018 at dozens of concerts throughout China and achieved very positive feedbacks by the media. “The three Clara on stage, the piano, the singer, and the actress, these are all three different forms of art smoothly impacting each other throughout Clara's emotional life, in conjunction with the choreography by “Director Clara”, blending together four women, always striving for a climax of classic art”, according to Peter Rothen, former German General consul to Shanghai.
