Christian Reimers, cellist and sometime quartet and quintet partner of Clara Schumann in Bonn and Düsseldorf caricatured here (as he has done frequently - and a corresponding sheet with Wasielewski is also preserved) the conductor, composer and music writer Ferdinand Hiller. Hiller was among the friends of Schumanns from theit time in Dresden. He encouraged Schumann strongly, to succeed him as municipal music director in Düsseldorf, and was also conductor of many Schumann performances, including premieres, as for instance of the concerto in A minor (in Cologne), which is also dedicated to him.

Ferdinand Hiller worked from 1850 onwards in Cologne (as before in Düsseldorf) as municipal bandmaster, re-organizer of the conservatory as well as the conductor of the concert society and the concert choir and was one of the key figures in German and in particular the Rhenish musical life, which he enriched with the management of numerous Niederrheinisch music festivals which took place in Cologne eleven times between 1853 and 1883. Hiller was not only close friends with Schumanns, but also with Mendelssohn, Liszt, Chopin, Johannes Brahms and later, with his student Max Bruch.
