The Schumann House

The Schumann House - opened at the beginning of December 2023 under the direction of the Heinrich Heine Institut - invites you to bring the past back to life. From 1852, the musicians Clara and Robert Schumann lived with their children at Bilker Straße 15. It is the only family home that has been preserved in its historical structure. Due to its special significance, the building was renovated in line with its listed status and converted into a museum.

Eight themed rooms offer visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the musical culture of the 19th century and in particular in Robert and Clara Schumann‘s life and work in their Düsseldorf years.

From 2003 to 2019, there was a small Schumann memorial (Schumann-Gedenkstätte) on the ground floor of the Schumann House in Düsseldorf, which was closed in 2019 with the start of the restoration of the building at Bilker Straße 15 and the simultaneous realisation of the new museum concept.
